  • Our Kids Will Thrive: Give parents and children the support they need to excel in and out of the classroom. Today – Tomorrow – Together
  • CNIB programs are developed to help combat the negative effects that vision loss has on an individuals’ quality of life and mental health as these contribute to both loss of function and social isolation. Our quality-of-life programs fall under the following five categories:
    • Live – programs that provide support and services that enhance daily living skills, help realize goals, and live life with confidence.
    • Play – programs under this category foster an active and healthy lifestyle and give participants the opportunity to connect with others while getting active. From yoga to art these programs provide something for everyone.
    • Work – CNIB’s “Work” programs are designed to provide the skills and resources to help participants attain their career ambitions, thrive academically at every stage, and hone their abilities as an entrepreneur or mentor.
    • Learn – “Learn” programs focus on education, skills training, and literacy to empower participants to achieve their goals by fostering social skills and independence.
    • Tech – Unleashing the power of technology lets participants lead an independent life. Our “Technology” programs level the playing field, providing skills and training that focus on the accessible, available, and affordable technology.

For people who are blind, partially sighted or Deafblind, connecting with others who are living with vision loss can make a world of difference toward rebuilding confidence, independence, and a sense of hope.

Creighton Lodge Trust Committee

Creighton Lodge is a Level 1 and Level 2 Enriched Living Building; operated by 5 R.M.’s. The R.M.’s of Estevan, Cymri, Coalfields, Benson and Cambria.  The Lodge consists of 22 one-bedroom suites, 5 suites with one bedroom plus den, 18 Enriched Living Suites and 2 Bachelor suites.

Creighton Lodge provides 24-hour staffing in the building to ensure the residents live in a safe and secure environment. The Lodge has a fully operational kitchen and serves approximately 80 meals a day.  The Lodge has 15 staff members, who all have the same mind set; putting the seniors first.

The Creighton Lodge Trust is a committee comprised of representatives from the 5 RM’s and one member at large.  The Trust committee is always looking for new members to assist them in their fundraising goal of ensuring Creighton Lodge continues to be maintained in the years to come.

Since the RM’s took over the building in 2010 they have ensured that the lodge has been brought up to standards and the waiting list has continued to grow.  The Lodge is the type of building where seniors can come to live independently while still accessing some services, such as freshly cooked meals, access to a whirlpool bath, hairdressing services, weekly bingo games, planned entertainment and exercise programs.

In 2015 the Creighton Lodge added a 2000 sq. foot expansion that allows for the residents to socialize, enjoy their entertainment groups, host family gatherings and participate in daily exercise programs.   This expansion was made possible by the generous donations from business owners, the residents of South East Saskatchewan and United Way Estevan.

Creighton Lodge continued…

This expansion has allowed the residents of Creighton Lodge to come together like never before.   Thank you to everyone for their dedication to the Creighton Lodge and their residents.

Estevan Regional Nursing Home Auxiliary

The financial support that has been received by Estevan Regional Nursing Home Auxiliary, from the United Way, has made a vital difference in quality of life to the 70 residents in our Home, each and every day.

The ERNH Recreation Department uses the funds from the United Way, to organize, plan and support day to day programming, for our residents. The money donated enables the Recreation department to provide quality programs. Programs that enhance lives, provide entertainment, laughter and creativity. Programs that are centered around wellness and therapeutic. Programs that provide social interaction and so much more. Recreation staff are in place every day, with the exception of statutory holidays.

Throughout the year the Auxiliary provides the transportation fees necessary, for the SMILE VAN to deliver residents to many destinations.  These outings include trips such as; Walmart (lunch and shopping), Woodlawn Golf (lunch and socializing) Black Beard’s Restaurant (breakfast), Affinity Place (lunch, then time spent walking around the track or using the library), Dairy Queen (afternoon coffee and ice cream treat), the annual parade in September, Orpheum Theatre (movie & popcorn), Christmas Twinkle Tours.

INTERNET. We have residents of all ages from 50 – 100 and each one has family and loved ones. A lot of times the loved ones live far away. The Auxiliary pays for the monthly internet fee, so that residents can communicate with family using SKYPE.  Some residents have email accounts and receive correspondence etc.

BINGO.  This is one of the resident’s favorite programs. Our Auxiliary generously supports this program, which happens twice a week.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES. Each month, an afternoon of musical entertainment is planned, followed by coffee and a special treat being served to all. The residents celebrating a birthday in that month are recognized and made to feel special, all courtesy of the Auxiliary.

There are so many other day to day simple, but important programs for residents, for example; Manicures, Crafts and scrapbooking, Root Beer floats on the patio, baking programs. We have a Seniors Auction Hour, where the residents come and bid on various items. Programs change as levels of care change.

ERNH Auxiliary and Recreation Staff, are able to make the simple things special, the ordinary into something more memorable, because we have the ongoing generous support from the United Way Estevan. The time, the talents and the gifts people share, make a difference in our residents’ lives. This is only possible because we have so many people who care, day after day, & year after year.

SaskAbilities

SaskAbilities supports people experiencing disability with programs and services to enhance their lives.

Each year approximately 20 individuals from Estevan and area visit Camp Easter Seal.  Camp Easter Seal is Saskatchewan’s only fully-accessible camp of its kind, offering a true summer camping experience for individuals experiencing disability.  The camp is located near Watrous on the shores of Little Manitou Lake.  There is a craft centre, a recreation centre, an accessible playground, an indoor pool, an amphitheatre – all linked by ramps for maximum accessibility. There is an accessible pontoon boat, para water skiing, horseback riding, campfires, singsongs, and lifelong friendships!

While at camp, campers build confidence and self-esteem, increase their independence, develop social skills, and experience a sense of inclusion.  Families and caregivers benefit from a week of respite; for many families, the only break they have in providing day-to-day care, year-round, is the week their family member attends Camp Easter Seal.

Although camp has been held virtually for the 2020 and 2021 season, attendance has remained the same for Estevan and surrounding area.  Camp Easter Seal staff have worked hard to keep campers connected through developing a robust virtual experience for all to attend. It costs approximately $1955 to send an individual to camp, which is provided free of charge to the individuals attending and made possible through the generous support of individuals and organizations such as United Way Estevan.  The annual cost for individuals attending Camp Easter Seal from Estevan and surrounding area is approximately $39,000. SaskAbilities is grateful for the support it receives from United Way Estevan.
